Charles Gary, 1993
In 1993 Dr. Charles Gary and his music education students compiled the CUA Songbook. Many of the songs in this book are traditional college songs, but a few are original compositions by himself and his students. One of those students was John Brodie. In a recent interview, when asked if he knew why Dr. Gary wrote the three songs he contributed to the volume, John wrote, "I remember he told me he was writing them for people to sing for posterity. The 'CUA Hymn' is beautiful. I do not recall 'Smash Bang,' but he said he had done them for the school itself and hoped they would still be used after he was not around."
